What to Do When You Think You Have an Anxiety Disorder

If you are suffering from anxiety, you will most likely experience a whole bunch of symptoms. Understanding them would greatly help you find a treatment for it, as symptoms can be similar for various disorders and illnesses.

Some of the common symptoms felt by those with anxiety disorders are: loss of sex drive, discomfort in the abdomen or stomach, hot flushes, chills, headaches, dry mouth, diarrhea, dizziness, negative feelings, and many more. Some of the tests being used to check people suspected to be suffering from this disorder are:

  • Blood Work: This type of medical testing is a routine examination that requires a medical technician to take some samples of your blood for analysis. This is done by inserting a needle into the veins or it can also be done using a finger stick test.
  • Chest X-ray: This test is given to those who are experiencing shortness of breath and pains in the chest. The chest, which is found in the upper limb, will be exposed to an X-ray machine, which has electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength of 0.01 to 10 nanometers. It uses gamma rays and UV light, enabling it to pass through ionized gas and solids.
  • ECG: The echocardiogram is done if the person is having some chest pains or palpitations. This medical equipment is specifically for heart testing, to see if the heart is working properly.
  • Urine Test: It is a series of tests done by getting urine samples and checking for any medical problems you may have. For people suffering from anxiety, this is given when abdominal pain is experienced.

When you are going to visit your doctor, he or she will have many questions to ask you in order to better understand your condition. It would be advisable that you sit down and think about your current condition first before seeing a doctor. You want to make sure that your answers to the doctor’s questions would be very informative and accurate. These are some of the questions you will most probably get from your doctor:

1. Do you have the tendency to feel anxious before these symptoms become evident?

2. Do you have the tendency to panic?

3. Are you taking any drugs or medication?

4. Are you stressed out at work?

5. Do you currently have some problems at home?

Anxiety disorders can also be brought about by substance abuse such as drugs and alcohol. It could also be a result of some health problems; a traumatic past; stress from work; stress from family problems; financial difficulties; and pressure from school.

What you should remember is that anxiety disorder is not a deadly disease- it can be treated! You can get rid of this simply by trying to change what is going on in your life and be in better control of your emotions. In fact, you do not really need to take medication to cure it. It can go away if you do something about it.

When you think you are experiencing panic or anxiety disorder, it is best you go see a medical practitioner, or someone who specializes in treating it. By doing something about it immediately, you can have higher chances of getting cured completely. However, if you have been suffering from an anxiety disorder for quite some time now, you do not need to worry. You can still be cured. The best thing about it is, once you are able to eliminate your anxiety disorder, you will have a better appreciation of your life and your health, thus you will be more cautious about what is going on around you and keep yourself healthy physically, emotionally and mentally.
