Once you think you are going to get a heart attack, you would feel your heart is pounding hard and you will feel it beating real fast. The good news is, there is nothing wrong with your heart, and it is just a warning sign of a stress overload.


Your doctor will actually tell you to get some relaxation training in reducing your stress. It is a choice you have to make; if you want to prevent heart attack you no choice but to give relaxation training a try. Relaxation training is not really a self-therapy. You are the one who is at stress and a buildup of tension so do you think managing stress on your own is a good idea? Besides, it is not going to take a lot of your time and it will be worth your effort because once you have mastered the techniques in relaxation, you can actually practice the techniques anywhere by yourself. It is a therapy that you can do anytime, anytime.


Here are some forms of therapy that you can undergo to beat stress.

  • Psychotherapy

You may be advised by your doctor to see a psychologist or a counselor on mental health, but this does not mean that you are having a mental illness. What you need to know is that, when the stress and mood is not managed, this may lead to a psychological disorder which is a more serious case.

Professionals dealing with mental health can provide you with some techniques that can help you manage your stress like visualization or stress inoculation. However, these stress therapy can be learned by tutorials through DVD and CD.

  • Hypnosis

This is another way of dealing with stress. Hypnotists can help you learn some relaxation techniques with the use of self-hypnosis. Don’t let false beliefs like quacking like a duck or howling at the moon shy you away in using these techniques. These are used by professionals in the field of medicine and psychology to manage stress and pain. After a couple of sessions, you may actually learn what you need to know to practice it by yourself.

  • Yoga

This is an ancient technique that would involve your mind and body for complete relaxation, stretching and developing your body’s flexibility at the same time. You can learn basic Yoga Movements after a series o sessions.

You can actually do this at home using DVDs and some books to help you with some moves. You can also schedule a Yoga session rather than doing this alone. Pre-pay and schedule a Yoga class at least two times in a week, this can also help in motivating you to be out of the house or office to have a better relaxation environment through practice.

  • Art or Photography

You don’t have to be an artist or a professional to enjoy this stuff. Forget the ideals and just paint whatever it s that you have in mind or just take some photos. Do it outdoors to a place where you can practice such as in a tranquil park or a garden or even in a solarium.

It’s not actually being a proficient photographer or artist; it is just enjoying what you can do. Being creative, when it’s a different thing from work is actually a relaxing activity. It is not like spending your time studying in order to get the results you wanted.

  • Be like a Kid

Act like a kid two times a month. Enjoy the swings or the seesaws at the park, draw whatever it is that comes to mind with a colored chalk in a driveway or watch movies that entertain you in your pajamas.

Do something carefree and at the same time fun. This can help you relax and lower down your stress level and can help you keep your stress away. Once that happens, always have time to do relaxation trainings or if you do not want to be in a stress overload situation again. Relaxing is what people need to learn because respite and a stress-free environment is something that do not come easy.
