Can you tell whether you are stressed or not? You may just assume that this is part of what is supposed to happen during the course of our lives and accept it. Relaxation not included in your itinerary because you are not even aware that this of mind exists. However, a problem arises when the person cannot handle the stress anymore.
Many people feel burnt out but nobody likes to admit that they are. We let the stress build up every day until we are already overloaded inside. Anger and hostility sometimes help release stress but for most people it remains inside, hidden, and damaging our mental and physical health; sometimes causing or worsening anxiety while driving. If you are one of these people, you must know stress affects your driving. You are not doing yourself any favour hiding it and delaying the time to deal with it.
People using this strategy to handle stress ignore the effects of stress on them. Pretending everything is okay and do not associate back pains, headaches, or the phobia in driving are actually results of bottling up all the stress inside you. This is more common with women because women are the source of nurturance in the family. They are too busy and too exhausted meeting the needs of everyone in the family to focus on their personal needs. And this is unfortunate, when people do not know that stress is what causes their problems in driving, they would find it more difficult to manage stress in their lives. When symptoms of stress appear, they might be a cause of health problems like increased blood pressure or heart attack if stress is not managed. So first and foremost, people have to be in touch with their emotions first.
Instead of hiding stress inside you and getting mad at yourself, releasing it would help prevent the damages that stress may cause, mentally and physically. If you feel as if you are burnt out, cry if you must. It is okay to get angry and express your anxiety to your loved ones; you are only human who also needs to let stress out on someone. If there is no one around, help yourself. Write in your journal how you really feel everyday and leave it there so it won’t come and endanger your health or your life on the road.
